Olukokun Tolulope has initiated a lot of innovative projects for ThinkElectric Africa, one of which a prototype of an electric vehicle is almost completed. A prototype of an electric bicycle has been completed and exhibited. The bicycle would be made available for students and farmers to help them with cheap mobility. The idea he accelerated with the Founder Institute Lagos and Graduated successfully. He also researched and developed a cheap means of making biogas digester in which he installed for different homes during lock down to ease the effect of COVID-19 on the people.
Tolulope is passionate about others especially on issues that concerns many people such as environmental challenges, inadequate means of transportation, climate change and he has given up all of his resources to see that this problems are solved.
He believes Local production is a key factor in transitioning to sustainable transport for a sustainable environment. This made him and his team to research and develop key components that are critical to our local production of electric mobility in Africa such as, electric motors, controllers, chargers, BMS, Lead acid battery production etc. He has achieved a level of successes and many are still in the pipe line. This satisfies his mission of using practical research and indigenous technology to accelerate Africa’s transitioning to renewable energy and sustainable transport.
On education, he is modeling ThinkElectric Africa’s operations as a tool to teach young ones about STEM, so they can grow interest in Engineering and Technology as a career. Most of these activities are uploaded on YouTube channel www.youtube.com/thinkelectricafrica and on one on one capacity training.
During the lock down, he was able to pivot into making devices that can help us combat the spread of Covid-19 such as mini ventilator, smart hand washers etc. His idea on mini mechanical ventilator made the top 100 list of AfricavsVirus challenge organized by the African Development Bank. This has helped them refocus ThinkElectric Africa Initiative as a complete technological organization where ideas can be turned into products that is ready for commercialization and development of a green economy.
He was recently named as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Persons of Nigeria (TOYP 2020) by Junior Chambers International Nigeria (JCIN) in the month of October 2020.
In November 2020, He was awarded the African Under-40 Green Award, which was presented to him by the Ambassador of Sweden to Nigeria, in person of Mr. Carl Michael Grans, the ceremony took place at the Swedish embassy in Abuja Nigeria.
Olukokun Tolulope is a lover of knowledge who is ever ready to learn and also to impact into others. In his interest in education, he has obtained two masters degree, a bachelors degree, a Post Graduate Diploma, Higher National Diploma and National Diploma, and currently applying for his PhD
